Chenita Group Home is an 8-bed, residential facility, which provides intermediate care for women who have been diagnosed with mental retardation or some other form of developmental disability.

Chenita Group Home provides a nice patio area equipped with lawn furniture, so that our clients can take advantage of the peaceful surroundings. Clients are encouraged to relax, entertain visitors, or perform some of their rehabilitation training in this area.
Because most of our clients function in the mild to moderate range of mental retardation, they are strongly encouraged to perform as many of their activities of daily living, as independently as possible. The majority of our clients routinely do their own cooking, laundry, and cleaning of their rooms etc. Active treatment programming plays a major role in the lives of our clients at Chenita Group Home.

Our facility provides two lounge areas where clients can socialize or enjoy moments of peaceful quietness. In an effort to promote wellness throughout the home for both our clients and staff, Chenita Group Home maintains a smoke free environment. Client and staff smoking is permitted in designated areas outside the facility.
Chenita Group Home is staffed with qualified and caring individuals who possess the necessary patience to effectively work with the special needs of the MR/DD population. They also provide the personal attention necessary to make your loved ones residential stay with us the best it can be. The nursing component is under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Physicians are on call at all times. Our habilitation staff works in shifts around the clock, supervising each client and their individual plan.
Chenita Group Home is equipped with the latest in computer technology, personally designed to assist the direct care staff in providing the most efficient care possible.
Chenita Group Home’s dedicated management team has over 100 years of combined experience in the various disciplines related to residential care. This experience further enhances the results and positive outcomes, which are achieved from a working knowledge of active treatment programming within the MR/DD population.
Social services staff under the direction of a Licensed Social Worker, supports and advocates on the behalf of the clients and their families. The social staff also helps clients deal with the transition to residential living. In addition they direct problem solving, goal planning, and IP conferences where clients and their families have direct input into all aspects of their daily lives.
At Chenita Group Home, we realize just how important the dining experience is in promoting optimal quality of life for our clients. Clients are encouraged to participate in the menu selection process by working with a licensed dietitian. Clients enjoy delicious meals, which are served in a family style format. It is felt that this particular method of dining, promotes a more normalized dining experience. All meals are prepared according to physician’s orders, and the special dietary needs of the individual clients.
Rehabilitation services at Chenita Group Home includes outcome based speech therapy, physical therapy, respiratory therapy and occupational therapy, along with psychosocial interventions provided by a Licensed Social Worker. Our contracted therapy staff have the training and experience necessary to assist our clients in achieving their maximum rehabilitative potential.
It should be noted that because of the physical layout of the facility, potential clients of the home should he ambulatory if at all possible.
Our semi-private rooms provide for all the basic comforts of home. Cable television connections are available in each room.
Activities and social interaction play a very important role in our client’s lives. Our activities and social staff combine over 40 years of experience working with the MR/DD population. The various lounge areas located throughout the facility offer an ideal place for clients to read, chat, or get involved with habilitation programming. Indoor and outdoor activities are continually planned, so that our clients remain orientated to their community and surroundings.
All clients of Chenita Group Home are mandated by State and Federal laws to participate in active treatment programming. Active treatment programming is defined as training by habilitation staff of clients, which has a short-term or long-term goal of teaching clients skills, which makes them more independent. The ultimate goal of active treatment programming is to assist the client in moving on to a less restrictive living environment, preferably in a community setting.
